Jim Kuhns is President of Apogee Technical Services. He has over 25 years of experience in the broadband and broadcast industries.

 

He has supplied technology expertise throughout the world for operators such as Singapore Cablevision, Cable Bahamas, Hong Kong Cable, UPC, Supercable, Continental Cablevision and Comcast. He has also worked with vendors such as Terayon, Concurrent, Optinel and C-COR.

 

He is the author of the “Satellite Calculations Handbook” and companion software program “Satellite Downlink Analysis”. Jim has presented papers and seminars on a variety of technical topics at local, regional, national and international conventions and has written for Communications Technology, International Cable, Broadband Library and CED magazines.

 

A fellow member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and an inductee into their prestigious Hall of Fame, he was the Society’s Region 7 Director from 1996 until 2002. During that time he served as Eastern Vice Chairman from 1997 to 1999 and Chairman from 1999 to 2001. Currently Jim is the Chairman of the SCTE's Senior Member subcommittee and a member of the Operations committee and BCE Review subcommittee. He has also served as the Chairman of both the Training and Operations committees and in various capacities on the CLI/Leakage, Installer Certification Manual and Safety Manual subcommittees. In the 1980s he developed the Society’s “CATV Wizard” and “Apogee” software packages. He is also a member of the IEEE, a senior member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and is listed in “Who’s Who in Science and Engineering”. He is a Cable Television Pioneer, class of 2006.

 

Jim is BCT/E, BTCS, BDS, BTS and BPS certified, a Senior Certified Electronics Technician and a Certified Senior Broadcast Television Engineer.
